On his final day in service, General Dwivedi received a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the South Block Lawns before formally relinquishing charge. As part of his farewell, he also laid a wreath at the National War Memorial.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Gen Seth was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986. He is the first Armoured Corps officer to head the Indian Army in nearly three decades, since General Shankar Roy Chowdhury, PVSM, ADC, retired in 1997. His love for the military is inspired by his father, Lt Gen Krishna Mohan Seth, PVSM, AVSM, who retired as Adjutant General of the Indian Army in 1997, having earlier commanded the same XXI Strike Corps.
Over a distinguished military career spanning nearly four decades, he has served in a wide range of operational, strategic, capability development, and institutional roles, making significant contributions to the Indian Army's combat readiness and long-term transformation.
Gen Seth has commanded both the South Western Command and the Southern Command, earning the rare distinction of leading two operational Army Commands. During his tenure, he strategically supervised critical theatres for over two and a half years. He has also held several key staff and strategic appointments, reflecting his extensive leadership experience across the Indian Army. His appointed tenure is expected to run until his projected retirement in August 2028.
In his farewell address, the outgoing Chief, Gen Dwivedi, reflected on his four-decade journey in the Indian Army and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation. He highlighted the Army's key achievements and innovations during his tenure and outlined his vision for a more integrated, joint approach of the Armed Forces to future security challenges.
Gen Dwivedi expressed confidence in his successor, Gen Dhiraj Seth, and formally entrusted him with the responsibility of leading the Indian Army, praising his experience, leadership, and professional calibre.
