Born into an army family, Shiv Kunal Verma was shaped by a disciplined upbringing and an education at The Doon School and Madras Christian College. He began his career with Tiger Tops Mountain Travel before transitioning into journalism and filmmaking, working with India Today, the Associated Press, and Sanctuary Films. As the co-founder of KaleidoIndia, he produced acclaimed films like Salt of the Earth and Standard Bearers. In 1999, he documented the Kargil War, deepening his focus on military history.
His bestselling books include Northeast Trilogy, 1962: The War That Wasn’t, 1965: A Western Sunrise, and Life of an Industani. His most celebrated work is the Yodha series—a two-volume chronicle of India’s military history.
Currently, he is leading the Value Education Program, an initiative to bring India's history and heritage into schools.
