Uttar Pradesh, the largest state in India, gives the maximum number of soldiers to Indian Armed Forces.
Then, we have Punjab, followed by Maharashtra and Rajasthan, each contributing significantly to the defence forces. According to the Ministry of Defence, as of March 2023, the strength of Army personnel from Uttar Pradesh is over 1.67 lakh and from Punjab it is over 89,000. Truly, these states are the backbone of our defence!
Haryana, stands in sixth place, while Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh are at the eleventh and twelfth spots. However, the remarkable contribution of these states to the Army far surpasses their share of the national population. For instance, according to the Ministry's data, Haryana, with over 65,000 soldiers, accounts for 5.7 per cent of the rank and file in the Armed Forces, while its share of the national population is only 2.09 per cent!
You might be wondering how it is decided how many soldiers will be contributed by each state. Well, it's based on the population of the state. In case a state can't fill all the spots, soldiers from other states can fill such vacancies.
While Uttar Pradesh might stand out as the hero in terms of its contribution to the Indian Armed Forces, it is the unwavering dedication of every soldier, regardless of the state they hail from, that truly makes India's Armed Forces a force to be reckoned with.
