Amidst preparations for a highly anticipated counteroffensive against Russian forces, the Ukrainian military once again emphasised the importance of maintaining operational silence. This recent plea by Kyiv adds to a series of messages aimed at ensuring readiness for the upcoming assault.
Growing anticipation surrounds the imminent broad offensive that Ukrainian forces are preparing to launch in an effort to regain control of the Russian-occupied territories in the eastern and southern regions.
In a recent development, authorities have taken strict measures to suppress the sharing of images or videos depicting the Ukrainian air defence systems successfully intercepting and downing Russian missiles.
In a video shared on official Telegram channels, the ministry made a statement, seemingly alluding to the upcoming counteroffensive: ‘Plans love silence. There will be no announcement of the start.’
The meticulously crafted video showcased front-line troops wearing masks, armed and prepared, as they signalled for silence by pressing their fingers against their lips. The backdrop was filled with the distant echoes of artillery and gunfire.
The video concluded with captivating visuals of F-16 fighter jets soaring through the sky, representing a coveted asset for Kyiv as it strives to enhance its air defence capabilities against Russian missiles and drones.
In recent months, Kyiv's Western allies have supplied weaponry, armour, and ammunition to support the counteroffensive. However, military experts have cautioned that the task may be challenging due to the entrenched position of Russian forces.
In a published interview on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed readiness for the operation but refrained from making any predictions about its outcome.
He said, ‘To be honest, it can go a variety of ways, completely different. But we are going to do it, and we are ready.’
Similar to other senior officials, Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov has also attempted to temper expectations. Nevertheless, the military has, at times, contributed to the mounting anticipation. Kyiv's social media efforts have aimed to instil intimidation in the Kremlin.
Just last week, a captivating video was shared, showcasing troops in preparation for battle and reciting an inspiring blessing. This video was subsequently aired as a recruitment clip.
