Japan's defence minister warns that Japan would aid Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion, amid escalating tensions between China and Taiwan.
Japan's defence minister has issued a warning, stating that if China were to invade Taiwan, Japan would likely come to the island nation's aid. The ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan have raised concerns for Japan, which historically refrained from clarifying its response to such a scenario. However, Russia's actions in Ukraine have heightened Japan's apprehensions about the potential for a China-Taiwan conflict nearby.
Ino Toshiro, Japan's State Minister of Defense, suggested that if the international community shows support for Taiwan similar to how they backed Ukraine during Russia's aggression, Japan would consider providing some form of support to Taiwan. He indicated that this support could involve defence equipment or logistics.
Additionally, Japan is alarmed by China's aggressive military rearmament under Xi Jinping, considering it a significant threat, particularly with China's increasing assertiveness in maritime zones, which they haven't encountered to this extent before.
