The upcoming Independence Day special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 17 will feature a historic moment on Indian television, as three trailblazing women officers of the Indian Armed Forces—Colonel Sofiya Qureshi (Indian Army), Wing Commander Vyomika Singh (Indian Air Force), and Lieutenant Commander Prerna Deosthalee (Indian Navy) take the hot seat opposite Amitabh Bachchan.
These officers, who played critical roles in the now-iconic Operation Sindoor, will grace the KBC stage in a special episode set to air on August 15 at 9:00 PM on Sony Entertainment Television and stream on SonyLIV. The teaser of the episode was shared by SonyLIV's official Instagram.
In the televised promo, Col Sofiya Qureshi stated that Pakistan’s repeated provocations required a decisive response. “That is why Operation Sindoor was planned,” she said. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh added that the operation was executed in just 25 minutes between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM, highlighting the precision and efficiency of the strike. Commander Prerna Deosthalee emphasized that their targets were neutralized without any collateral damage, ensuring no harm came to civilians.
Amitabh Bachchan, visibly moved by their bravery, engaged the officers in a conversation that combined personal reflections, strategic insight, and a celebration of India’s defense capabilities. The teaser ended with a rousing chant of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” led by Bachchan, drawing applause from the audience and setting the tone for a patriotic Independence Day celebration.
While the upcoming episode has been praised by many for honouring women in uniform and showcasing real-life heroes, it has also sparked controversy online. Critics argue that featuring active military personnel in uniform on a game show may conflict with military protocol and ethics. Some social media users accused the episode of serving as a public relations exercise, using national security for political or entertainment value. Others, however, defended the move, saying it was time the armed forces, especially women, were given mainstream recognition for their service.
Regardless of the debate, the Independence Day special of KBC has certainly succeeded in drawing national attention. With its powerful storytelling and rare behind-the-scenes glimpses into a top-secret military mission, the episode is expected to resonate deeply with viewers across the country.
