Twenty-two years ago, on 13 December 2001, five gunmen affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) staged a terrorist attack on the Parliament complex, initiating gunfire. The incident resulted in the loss of nine lives and left 18 individuals injured.
Members of parliament expressed their respects by placing floral tributes at the memorial dedicated to the martyrs, while Prime Minister Modi met with the families of the fallen heroes.
They comprised six officers from the Delhi police and two security personnel from Parliament. The ministers and members of Parliament in the Houses managed to escape unharmed.
Every year, on the anniversary of the attack, the President of India, Prime Minister, and other leaders honour and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending the Parliament.
