India-US Military Exercise: Tiger Triumph–24

The 'Tiger Triumph–24' exercise between India and the US from 18–31 March aims to improve HADR cooperation, involving Navy, Army, Air Force assets, with a harbour phase followed by sea ops.

19-Mar-2024

A bilateral tri-service exercise, titled 'Tiger Triumph–24', is set to unfold on the Eastern Seaboard from 18–31 March, involving collaborative efforts between India and the US. This joint initiative aims to bolster interoperability crucial for the seamless execution of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations, while also refining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure efficient coordination between the armed forces of both nations.

According to the Defence Ministry, the exercise underscores the established partnership between India and the US, focusing on enhancing operational capabilities and mutual understanding. During the harbour phase, slated from 18–25 March, Indian Navy ships, equipped with integral helicopters and landing crafts, alongside Indian Army personnel and vehicles, Indian Air Force aircraft and helicopters, and the Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT), will partake in comprehensive training activities.

These activities include training visits, subject matter expert exchanges, sports events, and social interactions, facilitating a robust exchange of knowledge and best practices. The engagement during this phase aims to strengthen the bonds between personnel from both navies and foster camaraderie.

Following the harbour phase, the ships, carrying embarked troops, will transition to the sea phase. During this segment, scheduled from 25–31 March, maritime, amphibious, and HADR operations will be simulated in line with pre-determined scenarios. This phase serves as a practical demonstration of the collective capabilities and readiness of the participating forces to respond effectively to diverse challenges, including natural disasters and humanitarian crises.

Through 'Tiger Triumph–24', both India and the US reaffirm their commitment to promoting regional stability and cooperation, while also deepening their strategic partnership. This exercise not only strengthens bilateral ties but also enhances the collective ability to address shared security concerns, thus contributing to peace and stability in the region.
