White House Doesn’t Confirm Claim that it Provided Intelligence to Indian Army in 2022 During the Indo-China Clash

During a recent press briefing, National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the White House, John Kirby, neither confirmed nor denied a news report which claimed that the US had provided crucial intelligence to the Indian military in 2022, helping them successfully tackle Chinese forces at the border.

The report, which was published in US News and World Report, stated that the US government had for the first time provided real-time details of Chinese positions and force strength to its Indian counterparts in advance of incursions by the PLA in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang sector. The information reportedly included actionable satellite imagery and was more detailed and delivered more quickly than anything the US had previously shared with the Indian military. The US News and World Report source claimed that this intelligence-sharing was instrumental in allowing India to repel a Chinese military incursion in contested border territory in late 2022. During the 2022 border clash, neither side used firearms, and no deaths were reported, but both Indian and Chinese forces sustained injuries. The incident led to meetings between Chinese and Indian military commanders to defuse any risk of further escalation. The Ministry of External Affairs in India has since reported that continued unilateral attempts by China to change the Line of Actual Control status quo have impacted the bilateral relationship between the two countries
