The Indian Navy's operations have been impacted due to the grounding of its ALH Dhruv helicopter fleet following an accident two weeks ago. The fleet of ALH Dhruv helicopters used by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard remain grounded while checks are carried out, according to defence officials.
The Army has permitted the use of some of its choppers to meet operational requirements. The ALH Dhruv choppers have become a crucial part of helicopter missions across various terrains for all three forces - Army, Navy and Air Force - as well as the Indian Coast Guard. The Indian Coast Guard and Navy operate about 40 of these Indian choppers for sea operations. The pilot conducted a controlled ditching over water on March 8, and all three crew members were safely rescued through a prompt rescue operation. The ditched helicopter was salvaged after deploying its emergency float gear.
