On Tuesday, Chief of the Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan spoke at the Indian DefSpace Symposium 2023, which was organised by the Indian Space Association (ISpA) in collaboration with the Defence R&D Organisation (DRDO).
Chauhan highlighted the need to develop dual-use platforms with a focus on incorporating cutting-edge technology in boosting India's military space capability and plans. He drew attention to expanding the NAVIC constellation, providing agile space-based ISR and ensuring secure satellite-assisted communications. He also stressed the need for creating a dual-use platform that could be used by both the military and the private sector. Chauhan further emphasised the importance of enhancing India's space situational awareness capability and safeguarding assets with counter space capabilities and resilient space-based infrastructures. The event was attended by Air Vice Marshal DV Khot, DG DSA, HQ IDS; Air Marshal BR Krishna (Retd.), Former CISC, HQ IDS of the Indian Armed Forces; and various other dignitaries from across the ministries, defence and space industry. Director General of the Indian Space Association, Lt. Gen. AK Bhatt (Retd.), stated that the symposium would pave the way forward in leveraging international space cooperation and developing a comprehensive difference space strategy.
