In a significant step toward strengthening its aerial combat capabilities, the Indian Army has received its first batch of AH-64E Apache attack helicopters from the United States. The helicopters arrived at Hindon Air Force Station on July 22 and are set to be deployed with the Army’s new attack helicopter squadron based in Jodhpur.
Described by defence officials as a “milestone moment,” the induction of these helicopters marks the first time the Indian Army Aviation Corps will operate dedicated attack helicopters. While the Indian Air Force has been flying Apaches since 2019, this delivery represents a direct enhancement of the Army's own offensive and reconnaissance strength, especially in forward areas along the western border.

Delayed by over a year due to supply issues, the delivery is part of a six-helicopter deal signed in 2020. The remaining three helicopters are expected by November.
The arrival of the Apache fleet marks a transformative chapter for the Indian Army’s aviation wing. With their unmatched speed, accuracy, and combat resilience, these helicopters are expected to significantly bolster India’s rapid response and deep-strike capabilities in high-stakes operational environments.
