According to officials familiar with the matter, Lieutenant General Daljit Singh assumed the role of Director General of the Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) on Wednesday, becoming India's most senior military doctor. Prior to his appointment to this position, Singh held the position of Director General Medical Services (Army) before his promotion to the top post.
Officials stated that he was commissioned into the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) in December 1983 after graduating from the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune. He holds a Master's Degree in Pediatrics from Pune University and a Doctorate of Medicine in Neonatology from PGIMER Chandigarh.
Lt Gen Daljit Singh has held various positions prior to his current appointment, including the command of 7 Air Force Hospital in Kanpur, the role of principal medical officer at HQ Central Air Command in Allahabad, and the position of assistant chief of the integrated defence staff (medical) at HQ Integrated Defence Staff in New Delhi. He has also served as the assistant chief of the air staff (medical) at Air HQ in New Delhi.
In November 2021, he was designated as the Honorary Surgeon to the President.
