Kaman Post on the LoC: A the New Tourist Spot

The Indian Army has taken a proactive approach towards promoting tourism in the Kaman Post, located along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri Sector of Baramulla district in North Kashmir.

The Army has proposed the transformation of Kaman Post into a popular tourist destination, which would offer visitors an exceptional opportunity to experience being on the LoC. The renovated Kaman Post is expected to provide visitors with an enriching insight into the military history of the region, as well as the chance to walk on the Veer Path.

With the ceasefire declared between India and Pakistan last year, the India-Pakistan border has been relatively peaceful. As a result, Kaman Post has seen a significant influx of local visitors. There is a growing sense of optimism that the region will emerge as a prominent tourist attraction in the coming months.

In 2021, the renovation of the cafeteria at Kaman Post by the Indian Army has sparked hope for the resumption of cross-LOC trade between India and Pakistan. This initiative to renovate the cafeteria and install a 60-feet national flagpole at Kaman Post highlights its commitment to promoting cross-border peace and fostering friendly relations with Pakistan. The post has become a popular tourist attraction, particularly for motivational tours organized by schools and colleges due to its excellent view across the Line of Control.

Kaman Post, named after Late Lieutenant Colonel Kaman Singh Pathania, MVC, is the first Indian Army post on National Highway 1A, the Baramulla-Kaman road, and leads to Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The Kaman trade point established on this post was instrumental in facilitating trade and bus services between the two countries.

The efforts of the Indian Army to enhance the infrastructure at Kaman Post signify a significant step towards the normalisation of relations between the two countries. It is hoped that the resumption of cross-LOC trade will strengthen economic ties and create new opportunities for development in the region.
