Early on Sunday, a Pakistani intruder attempting to infiltrate the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC), in Shahpur sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, was shot dead by alert troops.
The intruder was accompanied by two others, who managed to escape into nearby forests but were later apprehended by the army. One of the escaped individuals was injured and around 14 kg of contraband was recovered from them. The troops had observed suspicious movement of the three individuals around 10:15 pm on Saturday, and when they crossed the LoC and approached the border fence around 2am, the Army challenged them. The intruders attempted to flee but were fired upon, resulting in the death of one intruder. The area was cordoned off to prevent the escape of the other two individuals across the LoC. Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand provided this information.
