During a speech at the 'Festival of Thinkers' event hosted by Symbiosis International University, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasised that India's top priority is safeguarding its national security, and it is prepared to take all necessary measures to achieve this goal.
He acknowledged that every country faces challenges, but none are as critical as ensuring national security. India will not tolerate any transgression of its basic bottom lines and will not be bullied into submission, Jaishankar affirmed. He also highlighted India's recent border disputes with China and Pakistan, stating that these confrontations are tests of India's ability to stand up for itself. Despite being a peaceful and patient nation, India will not shy away from defending its interests and those of others who may not possess the same strengths and abilities, he added. Jaishankar went on to describe how India has emerged as a prominent voice of the global south, representing the interests of 125 countries in consultations leading up to the G20 summit. As the president of the G20, India aims to speak up for those who are not seated at the table but have legitimate interests that need to be addressed. He concluded that India's image today is one of an independent, self-confident nation that is willing to defend its national security and serve as a powerful voice for the global south.
