Marking a milestone in technological advancement and defence augmentation, the Indian Army has initiated the integration of ‘Akashteer Command and Control Systems’ into its Corps of Army Air Defence.

The introduction of Akashteer commenced with a ceremonial launch, featuring the departure of the inaugural batch of Control Centers from BEL Ghaziabad on April 4, 2024.

Crafted under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), this endeavour is poised to significantly elevate the operational effectiveness and seamless integration of the Indian Army's air defence apparatus, as affirmed by defence authorities. The Akashteer Project symbolizes a pioneering venture aimed at streamlining Air Defence Control and Reporting procedures through a transformative digital framework.

Underlining the pivotal role of technological progress, the Indian Army has dubbed 2024 as the "Year of Tech Absorption," embarking on multiple initiatives to integrate specialized technologies and systems into its inventory. The inclusion of Akashteer Control Centers signifies a noteworthy milestone in the Army's evolution, aligning with current needs and anticipated challenges in the realm of air defence operations.

According to defence officials, Akashteer seamlessly amalgamates radar and communication systems into a unified network, promising unparalleled situational awareness and command capabilities. This integration is poised to facilitate swift engagement of hostile targets, mitigate the risk of friendly fire incidents, and ensure the safety of allied aircraft in contested airspace.

Notably, Akashteer emphasizes mobility and resilience as core attributes. The system's vehicle-based and mobile Control Centers are engineered to sustain operational effectiveness even in adverse communication environments.

In essence, the deployment of Akashteer represents a significant stride towards the full automation of air defence operations, marking a substantial enhancement in India's air defence readiness.
