The Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan, received the final leg of the ‘Purvottar Bharat Parikrama’ car rally at Umroi Military Station on Wednesday.
The Indian Army had organized the pan North East car rally, which covered approximately 4000 km over 22 days, passing through nine states and visiting several historical sites and war memorials.
The rally was flagged off on 22 March by Army Commander HQ Eastern Command, Lieutenant General R.P. Kalit (PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM) from Fort Williams, Kolkata, and aimed to promote national unity, camaraderie, and national integration among the people of Northeast India. The event, conducted in collaboration with North Eastern Council under the Department of North Eastern Region as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, also showcased the cultural diversity of the Northeastern region and encouraged tourism.
Governor Chauhan felicitated the team leader, Brigadier K.M. Shende (Shaurya Chakra), and Subedar Major and Honorary Captain, Yogendra Singh Yadav (ParamVir Chakra), and praised the Indian Army for their efforts in the service of the nation. He also commended the coordination between the Army and Civil Administration in Meghalaya and applauded the Army’s efforts in assisting ex-servicemen and veterans of the state. The rally's focus was to build a ‘New India’ that is stronger and more prosperous while enhancing awareness about the Indian Army and the Agniveer programme.
