Officials have revealed that the Delhi Police has initiated legal proceedings following a complaint filed by a senior officer in the Territorial Army, alleging that fraudsters have created a fake website for the organisation and are using it to conduct a phoney recruitment drive.
The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations unit of the Delhi Police has lodged an FIR after receiving the complaint from the lieutenant colonel-rank officer. The fraudulent website, which has the URL https://territorialarmy.co.in/, is allegedly spreading false news about the Territorial Army's recruitment process. The official website of the Territorial Army is www.jointerritorialarmy.gov.in.
The complaint further stated that the phoney website was maligning the reputation of the Indian Army and the Territorial Army while causing financial damage to aspiring candidates. Police have said that they are taking action to block the website and have contacted Google. The website has also uploaded fake forms and QR codes to dupe potential job candidates.
A case has been registered under sections 419, 420, and 66D of the Indian Penal Code based on the complaint, which include offences such as cheating, dishonest inducement of property delivery, and cheating by using a computer resource for impersonation.
