The Indian Army has organised a 20-day long pan North East Car Rally called Purvottar Bharat Parikrama to connect with youths, freedom fighters, gallantry award winners, and common people in the mountainous region as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
The rally, which will cover approximately 5,000 km across eight northeastern states, will be flagged off by Army’s Eastern Command chief Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita in Fort Williams, Kolkata. The rally will comprise 38 members and 10 vehicles and aims to develop a meaningful connection for inclusive development of India by sharing experiences and augmenting bonhomie with the local populace. The initiative also seeks to highlight the cultural heritage of northeast India to the world and channelise the thought process towards the spirit of independent India, national integration, and building an inclusive mindset in local youth. Several events have been planned as part of the Purvottar Bharat Parikrama, including paying homage to freedom fighters and fallen heroes, an information campaign on avenues to join the Indian Army, and outreach programs for youth, students, families of the fallen heroes, ex-servicemen, and veer naris. The car rally is being conducted in collaboration with the North East council under the Ministry of Department of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
