The Indian Railways is planning to construct a railway line up to Tawang, where Indian and Chinese troops had a clash in December 2022. The final survey of the location has been submitted to the authorities, as stated by Anshul Gupta, the general manager of Northeast Frontier Railways. The proposed railway line will enable the Indian Army to deploy soldiers and equipment to the border quickly in the event of a skirmish with China.
ANI also reports that two other railway projects have been approved, the Bame-Aalo line up to Mechuka and the Pasighat-Parshuram-Wakro line. The survey of all three projects has been completed, and the aim is to finish the Pasighat new line work by March 2025. On the other hand, China has built two high-speed railway lines close to the Indian border. The Qinghai-Tibet Railway Line connects Xining to Lhasa, while the Lhasa-Nyingchi High-Speed Railway Line links Chengdu with Lhasa. The latter is part of a 1,600-km-long Sichuan-Tibet Line and runs 40 km away from the border in Arunachal Pradesh. India is still lagging in infrastructure development compared to China, but railway projects in Arunachal Pradesh have been approved since 2014.
