The Northern Command of the Indian Army took the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate a significant event in history. Dhruva Command extended their congratulations to the inaugural female Commanding Officer of a frontline Divisional Army Service Corps Battalion, who has been instrumental in ensuring essential supplies and transportation support.
Expressing their enthusiasm, the Northern Command shared the news on Twitter: ‘Dhruv Command congratulates Col Priyanka Singh, the first Woman Commanding Officer of a frontline Divisional Army Service Corps Battalion in the Northern Command theatre responsible for providing intimate Supplies and Transport cover. Northern Command is proud of her unique achievement.’
This announcement follows just a day after Colonel Shuchita Shekhar made history by becoming the first female officer in the Army Service Corps to take charge of a Communication Zone Mechanical Transport Battalion.
Playing a crucial role in the logistics of the fully operational Northern Command, the battalion takes on the responsibility of maintaining the supply chain. This includes various tasks such as animal transportation, contributing significantly to the overall functioning of the army.
PTI reports indicate that the Regiment of Artillery has recently welcomed five women officers into its ranks. The names of these officers are Lieutenant Mehak Saini, Lieutenant Sakshi Dubey, Lieutenant Aditi Yadav, Lieutenant Akanksha, and Lieutenant Pious Mudgil, according to reliable sources.
The advancements in gender integration within the Indian Armed Forces are not limited to the Army alone. Flight Lieutenant Shivangi Singh, who holds the distinction of being the first woman pilot of the Indian Air Force to fly the Rafale fighter jet, is actively participating in the multinational exercise 'Orion' being held in France. This exercise is significant as it marks the first instance of India deploying Rafale jets beyond its borders. Flight Lieutenant Singh, who joined the Indian Air Force in 2017 as part of the second batch of women fighter pilots, previously operated the MiG-21 Bison aircraft.
