The Army's canine named Alvin, along with its handler, detected an anti-personnel mine that had drifted near a track along the Line of Control (LoC) fence in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday.
The timely detection of the mine prevented a potential tragedy, as anti-personnel landmines are often planted in areas of the LoC as a trap for infiltrators, but they can drift down and cause accidental landmine explosions. The Army praised the high standards of training and skills demonstrated by the canine and its handler in detecting the mine.
