MEA Responds to Pakistan Army Chief, Calls Nuclear Rhetoric "Stock-in-Trade"

India on Monday issued a sharp rebuttal to recent remarks made by Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, who appeared to reference nuclear weapons in the context of India-Pakistan relations.

Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, during his visit to the US, remarked, "We are a nuclear nation, if we think we are going down, we'll take half the world down with us." He further threatened to destroy any dam projects done by India to stop the natural flow of the Indus River.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the comments, stating that nuclear sabre-rattling has long been a routine tactic in Pakistan's strategic playbook. He added, "Nuclear sabre-rattling is Pakistan's stock-in-trade," which also reinforces the well-held doubts about the integrity of nuclear command and control in a state where the military is hand-in-glove with terrorist groups."

India has expressed concern and regret about the remarks made on the soil of a friendly third country. No statement has been issued by the US officials. This is the first known nuclear threat to have been made from US soil by any third country.
